Will you try this viral recipe in your kitchen? (Source: Freepik)In the world of culinary delights, there’s one recipe that has recently taken social media by storm — Orange Barfi — a delightful regional twist to the classic Indian sweet. Known for its infusion of the unique flavour of Nagpur oranges, this delectable dessert seamlessly marries the creamy texture of khoya with the zesty notes of oranges.
At the same this Orange Barfi is much healthier than its counterpart, according to experts. “While regular barfi relies heavily on refined sugars and condensed milk, contributing to high calorie and glycemic index, Orange Barfi, when made with fresh oranges, incorporates natural sugars and fibre, resulting in a slower energy release and potentially less blood sugar spike,” Dr Priyanka Rohatgi, chief nutritionist, Indraprastha Apollo Hospital, told indianexpress.com.
Packed with vitamin C, oranges add an antioxidant punch to this treat. “Vitamin C strengthens immunity, combats free radicals, and promotes collagen production for healthy skin. Fresh oranges provide dietary fibre, aiding digestion and potentially promoting gut health. This can be particularly beneficial if paired with other digestive-friendly ingredients like nuts or seeds,” Dr Rohatgi said.
However, like any other sweet, Orange Barfi, should be enjoyed in moderation as part of a balanced diet. “Consider portion control and opt for homemade versions using low-fat milk and minimal sweeteners for a guilt-free indulgence,” the expert advises.
If a trip to Nagpur isn’t on your agenda anytime soon, worry not! Omkar Pawar, a popular content creator, shared a quick and easy recipe for Orange Barfi that you can whip up in the comfort of your own kitchen.
