From Gucchi Doon Chetin to Badam ka Halwa: Inside the vegetarian banquet for Putin at Rashtrapati Bhavan

An all-vegetarian feast celebrating Indian cuisine—from stuffed morels with Kashmiri walnut chutney to the humble dal—marked the state banquet hosted by President Droupadi Murmu for Russian President Vladimir Putin, concluding his two-day India visit on Friday.

Some of the mouth-watering dishes featured were Gucchi Doon Chetin, Achaari Baingan, and Yellow Dal Tadka. Sharing a glimpse of the curated menu, PTI shared on X, “The state banquet hosted by President Droupadi Murmu for Russian President Vladimir Putin at Rashtrapati Bhavan featured a meticulously curated menu.”

Notably, regional specialities were part of the exclusive menu for the Russian delegation. The serving started with Murungelai Chaaru or drumstick leaves soup. Then the guest was served delicacies like Kaale Chane ke Shikampuri and Vegetable Jhol Momo with Chutney.

The exotic spread also featured Zafrani Paneer Roll, Palak Methi Mattar Ka Saag, Tandoori Bharwan Aloo, Achaari Baingan, and Yellow Dal Tadka, paired with Dry Fruit and Saffron Pulao. To add variety, there was a range of breads like Lachha Paratha, Magaz Naan, Satanaj Roti, Missi Roti, and Biscuity Roti.

For dessert, there were traditional favourites, like Badam ka Halwa, Kesar-Pista Kulfi, Gur Sandesh and fresh fruits.

The table also featured accompaniments like beetroot, Khaman Kakdi, and Shakarkandi Papdi Chaat with Kamrak, Boondi Raita, as well as gongura pickle, mango chutney, and banana chips. Some of the drinks included freshly prepared orange, carrot, and ginger juice.

In a post on X, the President of India’s handle stated, “President Droupadi Murmu received President Vladimir Putin of the Russian Federation at Rashtrapati Bhavan and hosted a banquet in his honour. The President appreciated President Putin’s support and personal commitment to the India-Russia Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership. Both leaders expressed confidence that the friendship between India and Russia, which has been steadfast for many years, will continue to prosper for many more to come.”
