Frozen desserts are a beloved treat, especially during the scorching summer months. Whether it’s ice cream, gelato, sorbet, or frozen yoghurt, the cool and refreshing nature of these desserts provides a delightful respite from the heat. So, when the temperatures rise, there’s nothing quite like the sweet embrace of a frozen delight to satisfy our summer cravings. But with a never-ending list of frozen desserts to try from across the world, it might get confusing for you to pick the best one.

However, there’s no reason to worry anymore as Taste Atlas, an experiential travel online guide, has released the rankings of the best-rated frozen desserts in the world. “TasteAtlas food rankings are based on the ratings of the TasteAtlas audience, with a series of mechanisms that recognize real users and that ignore bot, nationalist or local patriotic ratings, and give additional value to the ratings of users that the system recognizes as knowledgeable,” it noted, adding that the purpose of such food rankings is to promote excellent local foods, instil pride in traditional dishes, and arouse curiosity about dishes you haven’t tried.

Two popular Indian frozen desserts, namely kulfi and kulfi falooda, made it to the list of the 50 best-rated frozen desserts in the world. They occupied the 14th and 30th spots, respectively.

Talking about kulfi, Taste Atlas noted that it is a traditional Indian ice cream made with slow-simmered whole milk. Due to the long long simmering process, the milk loses its volume and results in a delicious, nutty, and caramelised flavour. A form of ice cream, kulfi has a conical shape — a result of using traditional, special moulds with tight-fitting lids.

“Kulfi is usually flavoured with traditional Indian ingredients such as pistachio, rose water, and saffron, although some cooks prefer to flavour it with fruits such as berries,” it added, saying that kulfi is believed to have been invented by the ancient inhabitants of the Himalayas during the Mughal Empire era.

As for kulfi falooda, this refreshing treat is made by combining falooda noodles and kulfi. “The whole dessert is often elevated with various additions such as sweet basil seeds, jelly, or rose water, and it is frequently garnished with crushed nuts.”
