Recently, Aamir Khan’s inspiring fat-to-fit journey as a part of his upcoming film Dangal, became an online sensation. Bollywood’s Mr Perfectionist plays the role of Mahavir Singh Phogat in the movie and had gained and lost weight to essay his roles with sincerity. Although, it is a fairly common trend among actors to go through body transformations to fit their characters, it was interesting in Khan’s case as he chose to shoot the film in reverse, so he could gain weight first and then get back to being fit in a limited time frame.

Now, another video shows the fitness and training story of the girls who play Geeta Phogat and Babita Kumari in the movie.

All the four girls, two of whom play the roles of younger Phogat and Kumari and the other two the elder sisters, were subjected to rigorous training that went on for seven to eight months. The video shows how the girls were trained under Kripa Shankar Bishnoi Beniwal, Arjuna awardee and the coach of the Indian wrestling team. The makers initially were sure that the girls would not become like professional wrestlers at the end of six months, so they only wanted their wrestling on-screen to not look fake.

In Khan’s case, the transformation was much more dramatic, which meant a lot more work and diet control. As the actor once said, “Fifty per cent is that of the diet when you reduce weight, 25 per cent depends on workout and the rest 25 per cent on taking rest.”

In the case of the Dangal girls, what they saw at the end of the training was their increased flexibility, strength, stamina and fitness levels. For instance, Nitesh Tiwari, the director of the movie, Khan and Beniwal all observed how comparatively weak Zaira Wasim (younger Geeta) seemed during the training, but she managed to surprise them all with her intensity on the very first day of the shoot.

The video shows the motivating journey of these girls, who in their normal, day-to-day lives might more or less have not been a part of such rigorous and strict workout routines, yet each of them, in spite the physical exertions, managed to fight through just fine!
