Count on Sonnalli Seygall to consistently serve health and fitness goals through her active lifestyle. The newlywed not only maintains her peak fitness performance but also inspires her followers to do the same. In a similar vein, Sonnalli recently shared a video of herself practising backbends during an aerial yoga session.
She mentioned in the post that doing backbends is her favourite way of releasing all negative emotions. “No matter how clean our hearts are, our body subconsciously becomes a garbage can of so many negative emotions… anger, fear, jealousy, lust. We must find a way in our daily lives to release them and lead fuller lives,” she captioned the post.

Opening up about the same, Dr Narendra Shetty, Chief Wellness Officer, Kshemavana said that yoga poses called backbends require bending the back and arching the spine. “This spine’s extension has the potential to arouse the neurological system and cause emotional reactions,” he said.
According to the expert, physical tension results from the body’s tendency to hang onto stress, worry, and other unpleasant feelings. “Backbends can soothe these feelings by opening and extending the hip flexors, shoulders, and chest, which are common places for emotional stress to build up. In addition to physically opening the heart during a backbend, this action can also result in a metaphorical opening of the heart, enabling repressed feelings to surface. A feeling of freedom and lightness may result from this emotional release,” Shetty said.
*Cobra Pose (Bhujangasana)
*Bridge Pose (Setu Bandhasana)
*Upward-facing dog (Urdhva Mukha Svanasana)
*Wheel Pose (Urdhva Dhanurasana)
*Warm up your body with easy postures and stretches before doing backbends to ensure safety and effectiveness.
*Engage your core muscles to safeguard your lower back.
*Listen to your body, make progress slowly, and steer clear of pushing yourself too hard too soon.
*Modify the postures by using props like blocks or bolsters for support.
*Allow your breath to direct your movement as you inhale and exhale regularly throughout the position.
“Yoga backbends are more than just physical poses; they open doors to emotional emancipation and overall health. These positions encourage physical flexibility, encourage the discharge of negative emotions, and offer a host of additional advantages for the body and mind by gently arching the spine and opening the heart,” the expert concluded.
