Set against the backdrop of the 1960s, The Archies fashion draws inspiration from the Mod culture, The Beatles, hippies of the swinging sixties, and the top supermodels of the time, Twiggy and Jean Shrimpton, says Prof Devender Singh Kharb, dean, School of Fashion, World University of Design, Sonipat.

Keeping the old-school vibe in mind, Neha Jain, senior designer at Latin Quarters explains that this era was known for its body-fitting silhouettes, prints and frills. “The Archies fashion has a rustic appeal, but it is still on-trend. It has brought back nautical shirts, which are usually adorned by sailors, polka-dot blouses and dresses, headbands, dresses with frilled hemlines, all-weather sweater vests and more.”

Describing it as ‘reviving the spirit of the 60s’, Jain says that The Archies injects fresh air into retro styles, inspired by the groovy disco culture. “The comic book series is characterised by a wide array of vibrant and lively colours, which remain true to the spirit of the time, defined by the joy and exuberance of a bygone era.”

Gen-Z actors like Suhana, Khushi and Dot bring the characters of Betty, Veronica and Ethel to life in “vintage printed dresses and babydoll frocks”, says Prof Kharb. “Think puffed-sleeve dresses, ruffled blouses, poodle skirts, boxy skirt suits and Bohemian shift dresses. Layer this cleverly with sweaters or pinafores to channel vintage chic. Lastly, accessorise with boots, kitten heels, coloured tights or stockings, large berets, broad collars and smart Mary Janes, to round it off.”

The boys in The Archies, on the other hand, are equally cool and stylish. “Denim wear and leather jackets are the two key elements which are seen in Archie Andrews and Jughead Jones’ wardrobes. Pair it with vintage accessories, like suspenders, sweater vests, newsboy caps and casual sneakers, for final touches,” says Jain.
