After winning the International Woolmark Prize last year, and doing back-to-back shows at the Paris Fashion Week, Rahul Mishra has had little time to parade his clothes at fashion weeks in India.
In fact, his last full outing on the runway was in March 2014. However, all this is about to change with the upcoming Amazon India Couture Week to be held in Delhi from July 29- August 2.
The pret designer will now debut as a couturier with his latest collection on July 30 at Taj Palace Hotel.
“It’s a very strategic and straightforward shift. I want to refocus on India and this time of the year is best because there are no shows in Paris,” says Mishra, known for his fascination with chanderi.
The couture collection, he says, explores a stronger Indian identity. “The silhouettes are more Indian, the colours are a combination of gold and black, white and gold, beige and some pastels. Irrespective of this, the global appeal remains intact,” adds Mishra.
Interestingly, Mishra hints at a “sportswear influence” too for this range. He will showcase 34 garments on the ramp, and as always with no celebrity showstoppers.
While the line-up has not yet been revealed by Fashion Design Council of India, veteran designer Rohit Bal will have an off-site show as part of the week. With these two names announced, expectations from the week are on an all-time high.
