Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who arrived in Japan on Friday, attended the recently concluded annual summit of the G7 advanced economies. Serving lessons on sustainability, he was seen wearing a sleeveless jacket made of recycled materials during his visit to the Peace Memorial Museum in Hiroshima and the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park earlier today.
The production of recycled fabric involves collecting used PET bottles, crushing and melting them, adding colour, and producing yarn, news agency ANI reported. This innovative process significantly reduces emissions at multiple production stages.
PM Modi was seen wearing a ‘Chandhan’ shade sleeveless sadri jacket, presented to him by EcoLine Clothing, over his signature white kurta and pyjama. For the uninitiated, a sadri jacket is a traditional Indian garment typically worn by men. It is a short, fitted jacket with buttons along the front and a mandarin collar. The sadri jacket is usually made from airy materials like cotton or silk, and it is frequently worn with traditional Indian attire like kurta pyjamas or sherwanis.
“We are immensely thrilled and honoured to see Prime Minister Narendra Modi choose to wear the Sadri jacket presented by EcoLine Clothing once again,” said Senthil Sankar, Managing Partner at EcoLine Clothing, in a press release. “We are truly amazed and deeply grateful for his continued endorsement. He further highlighted the holistic use of natural resources while speaking at a session on ‘Working together to address multiple crises’. “I believe that the development model should pave the way for development, not become a hindrance in the progress of developing countries. I believe that we should take the benefit of digital technology to every farmer in the world. It should be our endeavour to separate organic food from fashion statement and commerce and connect it with nutrition and health,” PM Modi was quoted as saying by ANI.
This, however, isn’t the first time that the Prime Minister has made a sustainable fashion statement. Prior to this, he wore a sleeveless sky-blue jacket to the Parliament which was gifted to him by the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) during the India Energy Week in Bengaluru on February 6 and was made using material recycled from plastic bottles.
