Vietnamese-born model and event manager Jessica Minh Anh’s love for towering, iconic locations is fast becoming known the world over. Having previously catwalked on top of the World Trade Center in New York, the Grand Canyon and the sky bridge of the Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur, Anh recently organised a fashion presentation on October 31 on the first deck of the Eiffel Tower in Paris. For the special showcase she invited eight designers from across the world. Among them was Hyderabad-based designer Shilpa Reddy.

“The invitation did take me by surprise but Anh mentioned that she was looking to showcase young labels from across the world,” says Reddy, who was fascinated with the idea of showcasing at the Eiffel Tower. The former beauty queen who debuted with her signature label four years back, Reddy was also the only Indian in the show. She presented her Autumn-Winter 2014 collection titled Malkha.

“Before designing this collection, I kept in mind that I wanted to work with eco-friendly fabrics and also draw inspiration from my own state, Telangana,” explains Reddy who was also part of Lakme Fashion Week Winter Festive in 2013. For the Paris show, Reddy zeroed in on the malkha as the base for her designs.

“Malkha is not only handwoven. It is coloured using plant-based dyes. There is no environmental pollution in the making of this fabric,” informs the designer, who showcased a capsule collection comprising 16 garments. She also designed footwear using the fabric. “The silhouettes were modern comprising dresses, skirts, jackets and tunics. I also kept the international audience in mind and used delicate zardozi as the only embellishment,” says Reddy.
