Hailey Bieber opens up about wearing the ‘nepo baby’ tee: ‘I embrace that I am’

Hailey Bieber is not one to be afraid of making fashion statements. Something similar was seen earlier this year when she stepped out wearing a cropped white tee with the words “nepo baby” printed across the front. Her look came amidst the raging “nepo baby” discourse in Hollywood about the children of celebrities who have benefited from their parents’ fame and connections. For the unversed, Hailey is the daughter of actor Stephen Baldwin and the niece of actor Alec Baldwin.
In a recent interview with Bloomberg’s The Circuit, the 26-year-old opened up about the reaction she received on wearing the now-infamous tee. According to the model, she wasn’t trying to make a statement but just acknowledging her family’s famous roots.

“My point to having worn the T-shirt was not to poke fun at it or be like, ‘Yeah I’m a nepo baby haha,’ type of a thing,” she told host Emily Chang. “It was more so to be like, ‘This is what everyone is saying and I want you to know that this is my way of responding to it.'”
As such, Hailey’s t-shirt was just a means to embrace her identity for her. “I’m just going to call myself a nepo baby, because I am one, and I embrace that I am.”
While she expected humorous reactions for her tee, what Hailey received was a backlash from people who told her that she wasn’t really that much of a nepo baby. “What was funny about that to me, the way the internet is, it’s like nothing’s ever enough. You’re going to sit there and call me a nepo baby all day long, but then I acknowledge it and then I’m not enough of a nepo baby? There is never any winning with the internet, and that’s what I’ve always time and time again realised,” the model said.
Recently, Hailey was also criticised for wearing white to her friends’ — Stephanie Shepherd and Larry Jackson — wedding ceremony. It is generally advised that women avoid wearing white to another woman’s wedding.
