Aussie speedster Brett Lee is now launching his own line of scarves handwoven by women artisans, that will debut at the upcoming Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week Spring-Summer 2014 here.
The charismatic bowler, who is quite popular in India,is set to launch the collection,at the Australian design showcase of ‘Oz Fest’- a wide-ranging cultural festival of Australia that is scheduled to run in India from October 2013 to February 2014.
“This year Oz fest will open with Australian design showcase at WIFW in Delhi”,Kathryn Deyell,First Secretary Public Diplomacy,Australian High Commission said today while announcing the line up of events for the five-month long festival.
Lee is collaborating with the NGO Artisans of Fashion who work with Panchachuli Women Weavers and Woolmark of Kumaon for the “exciting new fashion project”.
The scarves, fashioned from Australian Merino Wool have been handwoven by the Panchachuli women weavers in the foothills of Himalayas.
“Last year’s festival brought so many creative Australians to India. I’m looking forward to being part of Oz Fest’s return and launching my new collaborative fashion project at WIFW next week,” Lee said in a statement.
The Australian cricketer,a favourite among many Indians has previously also worked with many Indian artists.
“India is my second home, and I’ve spent a lot of time telling Australians what a vibrant and impressive country it is. Oz Fest gives me the chance to tell people in India more about modern, multicultural Australia and has proven that when people from both our countries work together and share ideas, the results can be spectacular” said Lee.
Lee,is also one of the ambassadors of the ‘Oz Fest’,which held its first edition last year.
“This kind of partnership with our NGO Artisans of Fashion and FDCI will surely give a boost between two countries and in away help the artisans come up and show their creativity,” Kathryn Deyell said.
Apart from Lee,a ramp show by Australian design duo ‘Romance Was Born’ is also set to be featured at the WIFW.
The duo,Anna Plunkett and Luke Sales, who are known for their “other wordly” prints and fantasy designs will be debuting in India with their collection.
