Cannes 2023: Aishwarya Rai Bachchan steals the show in a glittering ensemble with a ‘mystical hood’

The reigning queen of Cannes, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, is finally here! Attending the Cannes Film Festival at the French Riviera for the 21st time, the actor was an epitome of inimitable grace and elegance as she turned heads on the red carpet on Thursday. In keeping with her extravagant style on the famous red carpet, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan turned up in an opulent gown from Sophie Couture.

The 49-year-old was seen wearing a glittering silver gown with lightweight aluminium details featuring a long flared trail and an attached “mystical hood”. It came with the brand’s signature black corset underneath and a huge black bow cinched at the waist.

“Unveiling a mind-blowing creation from our Maison, paired with lightweight aluminium details, a signature corset and crystals, from the Cannes Capsule Collection,” Sophie Couture wrote, sharing the sketch and the outfit.

Sharing further details, it wrote, “Our designer, Gunel Babayeva, never ceases to challenge herself with her ideas. This time, she took on a complex idea – how to combine comfort and beauty in one dress,” adding that “a crazy idea that at first seemed impossible, eventually led to the creation of ‘mystical hood’.”

With Aishwarya’s straight hair styled in her signature middle-parting, she added to the glam with defined brows, flushed cheeks, black cat eyeliner, and bright red lip colour. Ditching all other accessories, the actor let her striking outfit have its moment on the Cannes red carpet.

Prior to the appearance at the festival, Aishwarya posed for photographs in a gorgeous and vibrant glittering green Valentino dress. The ankle-length flowy dress featured a pleated bodice and cape sleeves. Once again, letting the outfit do all the talking, the actor ditched all accessories and completed the look with open hair, glossy lip colour, shimmery green eyeshadow, black eyeliner, and blushed cheeks.

Her looks, however, have drawn mixed reactions from netizens. While one wrote, “Really loved this look!! It’s very different from all the looks she has tried!! And the face!! Omg just served!! One thing is sure only Ash could pull off this dress”, another added: “Aishwarya Rai looked far better in Ponniyin Selvan than the dress in Cannes. But it is her money and her choice. We can just cringe.”
