Bollywood has always been an important determinant of fashion in India. The industry has introduced some absolutely charismatic trends – be it the beehive hairdos and the polka-dotted blouses of yesteryear, to the distressed denims and ankle-grazing capes of today.
In India, where weddings are a grand and elaborate affair, Bollywood has also managed to inspire many brides to experiment with their looks. Today, the one accessory that has made quite an impact is the nathni or the nose ring. In the past Dimple Kapadia and Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan had flaunted theirs beautifully in Bobby and Jodha Akbar respectively, but it was Sonam Kapoor’s bold statement with her diamond studded, oversized kundan nathni which brought the much ignored accessory in the spotlight.
Here are five Bollywood beauties absolutely slaying the look!
Along with her beautiful 17-kg lehenga that she flaunted in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, Anushka Sharma’s elaborate jewellery did not go unnoticed either. The charming actress wore a simple, yet elegant nathani made with a combination of pearls and emerald stones and it only added to her extraordinary outfit!
Deepika Padukone in Bajirao Mastani played the character of a woman of great grit and strong will, and the elaborate and intricately designed nathanis and nose rings she spotted in the film only added finesse to her character. This wedding season, you can probably make a bold statement with your studded nathani.
When Kareena Kapoor Khan swayed to Chammak Challo in Ra.One she grabbed the attention of fashion lovers, thanks to the gucchedar nath (Marathi nose ring) which she sported in the song. Play the demure bride-to-be with this wedding season.
At the Cannes 2013 red carpet, Vidya Balan flaunted the traditional nathani with a beautiful Sabyasachi sari. The Kahaani actress showed exactly how the traditional nose ring can only add to the elegance of an ethnic outfit. Planning to wear one to your best friend’s wedding? Team it up with a studded nathni. The only thing you now have to worry about is not stealing the bride’s thunder!
Sonam Kapoor is known to experiment with her looks, and at the Cannes premiere in 2013, she set new standards for fashionistas when she wore her diamond studded-kundan nose ring.
