A sessions court has granted interim bail for two weeks to Ketan Kadam, the main accused in the Mithi river desilting scam case. Kadam had sought to be released citing that his mother has been unwell. The court granted permission to Kadam to be released for two weeks along with conditions including that he has to surrender after the two weeks’ period is over. Kadam, the CEO of Virgo Specialities Pvt Ltd, was arrested by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Mumbai Police in May.
“Applicant/accused Ketan Arun Kadam be released on temporary bail for the period of two weeks from today, purely on the ground of critical health condition of his mother, on furnishing P R bond of Rs 1,00,000 (Rs One lakh only) with one or two sureties,” the court said. It set other conditions including that he has to mark his presence twice a week before the local police station and not leave the city limits of Mumbai.
The EOW had alleged that Kadam had formed two companies and forged documents to show hiring of machines for desilting the river. It had also alleged that Rs 2.41 crore were transferred into the personal account of Kadam by Virgo and was shown as the salary of Kadam as the CEO. Kadam’s regular bail applications have been rejected twice so far.
