The Payment of Wages Act would be amended soon so that workers get all payments through bank accounts or cheques, Union Labour Minister Bandaru Dattatreya said on Saturday. “Payment of Wages Act will be amended so that all the payments of workers will be given through bank accounts or cheques. No cash transaction will be made,” he told reporters on the sidelines of an event here.

The idea is to prevent exploitation of workers in payment of wages, he added. Dattatreya said he would first issue an executive order for the purpose. “First, I will give executive order. Next, the Act will be amended,” he said.

The Union Minister, who held a meeting of the State Level Bankers Committee of Telangana to review the campaign on opening bank accounts for workers, said his ministry has organised 45,000 camps and opened 10,35,000 accounts.
