(Representational Photo)Unidentified assailants allegedly shot dead a woman and her 20-year-old son on Friday night while they were sleeping at their newly-owned nursery in Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly district.
The police said that a vendor found the bodies of Meena Gotia, 45, and her son Netrapa with injuries in their head when he went to the nursery around 9.40 pm to ask if they wanted tea.
In his complaint, the woman’s husband Dhara Gotia stated that he suspected the hand of a family in Dohra village behind the killings after the Gotias backed out of a marriage proposal seeking alliance for his daughter.
“The family members were angry when we refused to go ahead with the alliance with their son and they had threatened to take revenge. They are the prime suspects,” said Dhara in the First Information Report (FIR) lodged at Bareilly’s Izzatnagar police station.
The FIR stated that Dhara was at his native village, Dohra, and that he had purchased the nursery only a few months ago.
He told the police that he had fixed the marriage of his daughter last year but they backed out of the alliance due to certain factors.
“We have formed three police teams to nab the killers. The suspects are being interrogated and we are hopeful of arresting the killers soon.,” said Chandra Bhan, the SSP, Bareilly.
