The winter Session of Parliament will begin from December 11 and conclude on January 8. A recommendation to this effect was made by the Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs Tuesday. The Winter Session generally starts at the beginning of the fourth week of November and ends before Christmas. It would be the second consecutive year when it would begin in December and continue into January.
The beginning of the session would coincide with the counting of votes for assembly elections in five states — Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Telangana and Mizoram. The outcome of these elections is expected to determine the mood of the members during the proceedings.
This will be the last full-fledged session of Parliament for the Narendra Modi government before the completion of its five-year term. The two Houses are expected to be adjourned on the first day after paying tributes to former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpyaee and Ananth Kumar, who held the office of the Minister for Parliamentary Affairs.
