A day after her meeting with union minister Nitin Gadkari on the issue of development in the state, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday slammed the NDA government on the issues of conversion and declaring of `Good Governance Day’ on December 25, saying they had all the potential to destroy the secular fabric of the country.
“Conversion is no solution, it is just a mental pollution. It is dangerous for the country. The solution lies in taking people of all faiths along with you, giving respect to all religions,” Mamata said at a function held in the premises of St Xaviers College of Kolkata.
She also attacked the Modi government on the issue of Good Governance Day on December 25. “We (the state government) were also told to observe December 25 as Good Governance Day but we refused. India is a secular country and we have a secular constituion. We always celebrated December 25 as Christmas Day and it is observed by all of us, Hindus, Muslims, Christians. If you do not sanction holiday on Durga Puja will anybody listen to that. Who are they teaching work culture? Every moment is a moment for good governance. Holding on a seat of power you can not make such distictions. India is a country where unity is our strength. Divided we fall,” Mamata further said.
