West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is the latest Indian politician to join Twitter. Mamata on Thursday debuted on Twitter and greeted the people on New year.
Her very first tweet from ‘@MamataOfficial’ read: “A New Year. A new beginning for me on Twitter”.
Mamata’s debut on Twitter coincided with the 16th Foundation Day of the All India Trinamool Congress.
Within an hour of joining the social networking site, she notched up 1,000 followers.
Her second tweet was, “We are committed to work for the development of the people. We look forward to your help and cooperation. Happy New Year to you all”.
She was congratulated by celebrities for joining the social media site.
“Mamata Banerjee has always been comfortable addressing large gatherings and comfortable in communicating with people from all walks of life. She already has a presence on Facebook and in a short span she already has ten lakh ‘likes’. Now with an entry into Twitter this great communicator has found another media to share her message,” TMC spokesperson and MP Derek O’Brien said.
Socialite Suhel Seth joked that Twitter should now remove ‘following’ from her profile as she is the leader and cannot follow anyone!
