“Paper leakage outside, water leakage inside. The recent water leakage in the Parliament lobby used by the President highlights urgent weather resilience issues in the new building, just a year after completion. Moving Adjournment motion on this issue in Loksabha,” he posted on X.
Tagore submitted an adjournment motion seeking formation of a special committee of MPs to inspect the building and assess the “causes of the leaks, evaluate the design and materials, and recommend necessary repairs”.
“Additionally, it should establish a maintenance protocol and ensure transparency by publicly sharing their feelings,” he wrote.
Samajwadi Party president and Lok Sabha MP Akhilesh Yadav, too, hit out at the Government.
“The old Parliament was better than this new Parliament, where even the old MPs could come and meet. Why not go back to the old Parliament, at least till the time the water dripping program is going on in the Parliament built with billions of rupees. People are asking whether water dripping from every new roof constructed under the BJP government is a part of their well thought out design or…” he posted on X.
According to a Lok Sabha source, water had collected outside the building and there were some minor leaks inside as well. A Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry source, however, said the video posted by Tagore was of the only spot inside the building where water had leaked in.

The new building, constructed as a part of the Government’s larger Central Vista redevelopment project, was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 28, 2023, and the two Houses shifted to the new premises on September 19, 2023. Designed by Ahmedabad-based HCP Design, Planning and Management, the building was constructed by Tata Projects Ltd at an estimated cost of Rs 1,200 crore.
Reacting to the reports, the Lok Sabha Secretariat said in a statement, “During the heavy rain on Wednesday, the adhesive material used to fix the glass domes over the lobby of the building was slightly displaced, causing minor leakage of water in the lobby. The problem was, however, detected timely and corrective measures were taken immediately. Thereafter, no further leakage of water has been noticed. Similarly, accumulated water opposite Makar Dwar also got drained out quickly.”
