Congress gears up to move Supreme Court: After strongly protesting against the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, the Congress party is now preparing to move the Supreme Court after the Bill got Parliament’s nod. Veteran Congress leader Jairam Ramesh, in a statement on X, said, “The INC will very soon be challenging in the Supreme Court the constitutionality of the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024.” Ramesh asserted that the Congress party will “continue to resist all assaults of the Modi government” on the principles of the Constitution of India.

Waqf Bill passed in both Houses: After a stormy debate session lasting over 13 hours, the Rajya Sabha passed the Waqf (Amendment) Bill in the early hours of Friday. The Bill was passed by the Lok Sabha on Thursday, and taken up for debate in the Rajya Sabha on the same day. The Upper House was adjourned at 4:02 am on Friday, and is set to resume proceedings at 11 am the same day. Today is the last day of the Parliament Budget Session, after which both Houses are expected to be adjourned sine die.
