Waqf Bill: AIMPLB mounts pressure on TDP, JDU with series of protests

Ahead of the second half of Budget Session of Parliament starting Monday, the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) Saturday launched a series of protests against the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, which is likely to be tabled during the session.
To mount pressure on BJP’s key allies — TDP and JD(U) — the Board has decided to hold a protest at Jantar Mantar on March 13 and is sending invitations to all the Opposition parties to take part in it. It has warned that if the Bill is still passed, the Board will launch a nationwide movement.

N Chandrababu Naidu he may lose support of Muslim voters if he did not oppose the Bill. One of the speakers said without TDP and JD(U)’s support, the Centre won’t be able to get the Bill passed in the House.

AIMPLB spokesperson Syed Qasim Rasool Ilyas said, “Now that the government and its allied parties are adamant on passing this controversial and unacceptable Bill for Muslims, there is a strong fear that it will be passed in the parliamentary session starting next week. It has become necessary to once again present the strong stand of Muslims to the government…” “Meetings were also held with the JPC members individually. The government did not listen to us,” he said.
