The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB), the apex body of Muslim clerics in India, held a protest against the Waqf (Amendment) Bill in Delhi on Monday. The protest was attended by Opposition leaders including AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owasi, Congress Lok Sabha MP Gaurav Gogoi and TMC Lok Sabha MP Mahua Moitra.

Owaisi, who was part of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, said it intended to snatch mosques, graves and madrassas from Muslims.

He also criticised NDA allies TDP, JD(U) and LJP(RV). “Collectors, who will support the government, have all the power in deciding whether a property is Waqf or not. The purpose of this Bill is to snatch masjids, kabristans and madrasas from us. If Chandrababu Naidu, Nitish Kumar and Chirag Paswan don’t resist this Bill now, Indian Muslims will never forgive them. This is an anti-Muslim and anti-Constitutional bill to loot the Waqf,” he said.
