As Uttarakhand has been reeling under incessant rains triggering landslides and flash floods in many places, state police Monday urged people not to venture near banks of rivers.
Taking to X, formerly Twitter, Chamoli Police shared a video in which a person can be seen being swept away in a landslide, and wrote, “Due to the rains in the mountains, the water level of the rivers has increased continuously. Due to this frequent landslides are happening at places along the banks of the river. Chamoli police request you to avoid getting killed at such places and people living on the banks of the river should be alert.”
Chamoli police also issued an advisory Monday asking people to avoid bathing under waterfalls in the mountains. The police posted a video of a few men bathing under a waterfall, and wrote, “Avoid bathing under waterfalls in the mountains during the rainy season.”
On Friday, the water level in the Pindar River in the Tharali area of Chamoli district surged following heavy rainfall in the state, news agency ANI reported.
Meanwhile, a part of the famous Tapkeshwar Mahadev temple in Dehradun has collapsed following continuos rainfall, ANI reported. Devotees, who came to the temple to offer prayers on the occasion of Monday of Sawan, faced problems as the way leading to the temple’s entrance was partially blocked due to the falling of trees.
Heavy downpour in the northern state this monsoon have triggered landslides and flash floods in several places.
