In a case of suspected honour killing, a girl and her boyfriend were shot dead allegedly by her brother in Sadar Bazar area of Shahjahanpur district Sunday.
One person who tried to intervene suffered a gunshot injury.
The accused, Vipin Saxena (22), suspected that his sister Priyanka (20) and his business partner Akhilesh alias Chanchal were having an affair. When he saw them together in a room Sunday, he fired at them. The two died on the spot.
The body of Priyanka was found at the ground floor while Akhilesh’s body was recovered from the first floor of the house. Both sustained two bullet injuries each.
While walking out of the house, Vipin also shot at his neighbour Sachin Verma who had come to his house upon hearing the gun shots. Sachin suffered bullet injury on his chest and is admitted in hospital where doctors said his condition was out of danger.
A hunt is launched to trace Vipin.
Superintendent of Police, Shahjahanpur, R K Sahu said preliminary investigations have found that a love affair between Priyanka and Akhilesh led to the murders. The details of the incident will, however, be revealed after Vipin’s arrest, he added.
Vipin is a resident of Badujai locality while Akhilesh’s house is at a distance of 500 metres at Lalateli Bajaria locality. Vipin’s father Chandra Kumar Saxena is a government employee.
Circle Officer, City, Rajeshwar Singh said the locals told the police that they had seen Vipin carrying two countrymade pistols and firing in the air even after he walked out of the house.
Meanwhile, Akhilesh’s brother Munishwar Yadav who lodged the complaint about his brother’s murder, said his brother had an altercation with Vipin at the latter’s house over money. Vipin fired several shots at Akhilesh and a stray bullet hit his sister, too.
