Eight UNLF militants arrested with arms including AK 47 rifles: Manipur police

The Manipur police said they have arrested eight militants of the Pambei faction of the United National Liberation Front (UNLF) and recovered sophisticated weapons from them.

The recovered arms and ammunition include three AK 47 rifles, two AK 56 rifles, one M-16 rifle, one 9mm pistol, 147 live rounds of AK 47 ammunition, 20 live rounds of M 16 and 25 live rounds of 9mm ammunition, the police said, adding that they had also seized 16 mobile handsets and a sports utility vehicle from the militants.
Khundongbam Pambei’s UNLF faction was the first valley-based armed group to come to the negotiating table. It signed a peace agreement with the central and state governments in November 2023.
In another development, the National Investigation Agency arrested a member of the Kuki National Front (Military Council) on Monday in connection with the death of two CRPF personnel in an attack in April. Two other CRPF men sustained injuries in the attack at Naranseina Maning in Bishnupur district.
The accused—Thongminthang Haokip also known as Thangboi Haokip—was initially arrested on June 6 at Imphal Airport in a separate case investigated by the NIA.
