Amid apprehensions by locals over the proposed disposal of 337 tonnes of Union Carbide waste in Madhya Pradesh’s Dhar district, a video purportedly showing a borewell discharging “black” water surfaced on social media.

To dispel fears, district officials Wednesday visited the area near Pithampur town, where the waste has been brought for disposal, an official said.

The investigation team conducted an on-site inspection and collected water samples from the borewell. However, during the inspection, in the presence of villagers “black water did not flow from the borewell”. According to a Pollution Department officer, the “viral video is being investigated under orders from higher authorities”.
