Manik Sarkar said an extra 4 per cent tax on large corporations would provide a huge sum of money to the government to carry out “different activities for the interests of the people but it seems that the Centre is not willing to do it.” (File Photo)Former Tripura chief minister Manik Sarkar Friday alleged that the recently tabled Union Budget 2025-2026 has neglected the interests of the masses.
Addressing a sit-in demonstration in Agartala in protest against the Union Budget, Sarkar said, “They (ruling parties at the Centre) only talk about the poor during elections but after coming to power, they serve the interests of big capitalists.”
The former chief minister added that the Left Front has demanded a four per cent tax hike on big corporate companies to counter the deficit in revenue resulting from the tax relaxation given to the middle class, halting the privatisation of health and education sectors, and a hike in fund allocation for women, Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe communities, among others.
