Tripura bags 7 National Panchayat Awards, prizes to be distributed next week

The Thakchahra Gram Panchayat under Amarpur RD Block bagged the second position in the Carbon Neutral Panchayat category under the Gram Urja Swaraj Vishesh Panchayat Puraskar.

The Tripura government has bagged seven National Panchayat Awards.

Sharing the news, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha wrote on his social media handle, “A proud moment for Tripura! The State has secured seven National Panchayat Awards, scripting history. This significant achievement reflects our commitment to delivering good governance.”

The awards will be given out at the National Panchayat Award Ceremony slated to be held on December 11 in New Delhi. A delegation led by Sandeep R Rathode, Secretary, Rural Development (Panchayat) department, will represent the state government at the event.

The Amarpur RD block in Tripura’s Gomati district has been ranked the best district panchayat and the best block panchayat under the Nanaji Deshmukh Sarvottam Panchayat Satat Vikas Puraskar.

Gomati district will get Rs 5 crore and Amarpur RD block another Rs 1.75 crore as prize money for winning the award.

Manubunkul Village Committee under Rupaicherri block has been adjudged the best women-friendly panchayat under the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Panchayat Satat Vikash Puraskar.

Betchara Gram Panchayat in Kumarghat block and Rajkang Village Committee under Amarpur RD Block secured the third position in the ‘Poverty Free and Enhanced Livelihoods’ and ‘Child-Friendly Panchayat’ categories of the Panchayat awards, respectively.

The Debbari Gram Panchayat in Amarpur block got the third position in the ‘Water Sufficient Village’ category under the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Panchayat Satat Vikas Puraskar.

The Thakchahra Gram Panchayat under Amarpur RD Block bagged the second position in the Carbon Neutral Panchayat category under the Gram Urja Swaraj Vishesh Panchayat Puraskar.

Last month, CM Saha urged public representatives and officials to strive to make the state’s panchayat system a role model for the entire country.
