It is suspected that the arrested man belonged to a transboundary syndicate and was involved in arms and narcotics smuggling.A man from Manipur was arrested Sunday in Singicherra of Tripura’s Khowai district while he was trying to smuggle arms to neighbouring Bangladesh.
The accused was arrested following an extensive operation conducted by the officials of Teliamura Customs Preventive Force and Divisional Preventive Force, Agartala, headed by the deputy commissioner, Customs Division, Agartala.
The team received a tip-off on the accused’s travelling schedule from Lumding to Agartala on February 7.
The team seized four .32mm pistols, 150 bullets, and five magazines from the alleged arms smuggler.
A case was lodged against him under the Customs Act, 1962. He was produced before the chief judicial magistrate in Khowai and sent to judicial custody.

Tripura shares an 856 km long international border with Bangladesh. Smuggling of contraband items including drugs has been frequently reported along the international border in recent months.
