Saha sought the prime minister’s attention to various demands, including employment generation, the establishment of premier educational institutions like AIIMS, IIT and IIM in the state, and the construction of a 150-km national highway connecting Kamalpur in North Tripura to Santirbazar in South Tripura via Ambassa and Ganda Twisa in Dhalai and Amarpur in Gomati district.
The Mata Tripureswari Temple, one of the country’s 51 Hindu shaktipeethas, is a symbol of Tripura’s rich cultural heritage and the redecoration was done to further popularise it as a tourism destination, Saha said.
“The meeting was a positive step towards fostering a stronger partnership between the state and the central government. Chief Minister Saha’s efforts to promote Tripura’s development and cultural heritage were well received by Prime Minister Modi,” an official of the chief minister’s office said.
The chief minister also met Union Home Minister Amit Shah during his Delhi visit and discussed various issues, including the post-flood situation in the state.
Devastating floods claimed 38 lives and affected over 17 lakh people last year. The state government estimated damage of Rs 15,000 crore across different sectors, including road connectivity, power transmission, domestic households, public infrastructure, livestock and agriculture.
An inter-ministerial team from the central government visited Tripura to assess the extent of the damage.
The state government has allocated Rs 564 crore, including funds from donors, to deal with the devastation caused by the disaster.
