Two Bangladeshi nationals were injured after Border Security Force (BSF) personnel opened fire on them, foiling a smuggling attempt at Boxanagar in Tripura’s Sepahijala district.
The Bangladeshi nationals, who were trying to smuggle goods, tried to encircle and attack the troops on duty, leading to the personnel firing at them using non-lethal weapons.
Following this, the smugglers fled from the spot, leaving behind a huge quantity of sugar that they were trying to smuggle forcefully, a statement issued by the BSF stated.
“It is reliably learnt that two Bangladeshi smugglers got pellet injuries and are undergoing treatment in a hospital in Bangladesh”, the statement read.
In a separate incident, the BSF also arrested five Bangladeshi nationals, including three women, at the bordering area of Belonia in South district for trying to enter the state illegally. While conducting a search, the BSF retrieved Indian identification documents like Aadhar, PAN etc from their possession.
The detained have been identified as Nazima Begum, 40, Salma Begum, 50, Nazima Begum, 28, Yasim sheikh, 11 and 34-year old Mohammad Akhter 34. The accused, who are residents of district Madaripur and Barisal in Bangladesh, claimed that they were supposed to move to different parts in Delhi.
