Trinamool MP Derek O’Brien suspended from Rajya Sabha until end of session for ‘ignoble misconduct’

Rajya Sabha Chair Dhankhar called O’Brien’s behaviour a serious misconduct and a shameful incident, adding that the TMC MP had defied the chair.

Despite the warning, O’Brien and other Opposition lawmakers shouted slogans in protest in the House as the morning session began. They were demanding that Union Home Minister Amit Shah be present in the House and give a statement about the Parliament security breach incident.

As Rajya Sabha was adjourned, Dhankhar said a high-level investigation had started into the Parliament security breach incident, and a police case had also been filed.

Six people were involved in the incident on Wednesday, of which four who used smoke canisters have been charged under the stringent anti-terror Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

Meanwhile, Rajya Sabha on Thursday referred the matter regarding the conduct of suspended TMC member Derek O’Brien to the Committee of Privileges for probe and asked the panel to submit its report in three months.
