Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tej Pratap Yadav on Saturday met his ailing father and former Bihar chief minister Lalu Prasad at Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Patna and reaffirmed that he stood by his decision to part ways with his wife Aishwarya Rai.
A former Bihar minister, Tej Pratap has filed an application in a family court for divorce, apparently citing reasons of incompatibility. The couple had tied the knot here on May 12 this year. The court will take up the matter for hearing on November 29.
“There is no question of me going back on the decision regarding filing of divorce. Aadmi to ghut-ghut ke to nahin je sakta na (a person can’t live in a suffocating environment),” he told reporters.
Earlier in the day, Tej Pratap reached Ranchi from pilgrim town of Bodh Gaya, where he had made a brief stopover, and met his father for over two hours.
Lalu, who is currently in judicial custody, has been admitted to RIMS due to poor medical condition. He is facing imprisonment in several fodder scam cases. According to news agency PTI, a team of doctors checked the former chief minister on Saturday and told reporters that everything is normal.
Emerging from the meeting with his father, Tej Pratap told reporters that Lalu had told him that he would come out and discuss the matter.
“I would wait for him to come out,” Tej Pratap said, adding that there was no reason for him to discuss other details of the divorce petition with the media.
Local RJD leaders present at RIMS also maintained that it was a family matter and there was nothing to comment on it. RJD leader and Tej Pratap’s younger brother Tejashwi Yadav has also expressed strong displeasure over the media spotlight on the divorce petition stressing that family matters should not be highlighted in public, a PTI reports said.
