Kidari Sravan Kumar, the son of Araku legislator Kidari Sarveshwara Rao who was killed by Maoists, was inducted into the Andhra Pradesh Cabinet on Sunday. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu also inducted TDP strongman Nasyam Mohammed Farooq to the Cabinet, perhaps with an eye on next year’s Assembly elections.
Governor E S L Narasimhan flew from Hyderabad to Vijayawada and then drove to Amaravati to swear them in. After taking oath, Kumar touched Naidu’s feet and took his blessings while the Governor congratulated the two new ministers.
The two were filling vacancies which had arisen after the BJP quit the coalition government in the state following the TDP severing its ties with the NDA at the Centre. With the latest expansion, the cabinet strength stands at 26, the upper limit as per the Constitutional norm.
