At least seven militants, including chief of the Ansar Gazwat Ul Hind (AGuH) Imtiyaz Shah, were killed in two separate encounters in South Kashmir on Friday. While Shah was killed in an encounter in the Tral area of Pulwama along with another militant, five militants were killed in an overnight encounter at Shopian.
DGP J&K Police Dilbag Singh told The Indian Express, “Both the ongoing operations at Shopian and Tral are over. Five terrorists in first and two in second operation neutralised. Both the terrorist groups are from the same outfit. 7 AK and 2 pistols recovered. With these two encounters and elimination of 7 terrorists, the terrorist group AGH fully wiped out once again.”
J&K Police had stated last night that the brother of one of militants along with the Imam were sent inside a mosque at Shopian where militants were holed up to persuade them surrender. However, the operation ended this morning with the death of the AGH chief.
