Locked in a bitter tussle with the BJP over sharing of power in the next government in Maharashtra, the Shiv Sena Tuesday said the party had always practiced “politics of truth” and was not hungry for power.

“Uddhav Thackeray ji said we have other options too, but we don’t want to do the sin of accepting that alternative… the Shiv Sena has practiced politics of truth, the party is not hungry for power,” PTI quoted senior Sena leader Sanjay Raut as saying.

The BJP and its ally Sena won 105 and 56 seats respectively in the 288-member Assembly to retain power in Maharashtra.

When asked about the delay in formation of government in Maharashtra despite the alliance, Raut, referring to Haryana’s Deputy Chief Minister and Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) leader Dushyant Chautala, said, “There is no Dushyant in Maharashtra whose father is in jail.”

Meanwhile, effectively ruling out a 50:50 power-sharing formula with the Sena, Devendra Fadnavis Tuesday said that he will be the Maharashtra Chief Minister for another five years. He added that the Sena was not promised the CM’s post for two-and-a-half-years during pre-poll negotiations.

On Monday, Raut had said his party should not be compelled to look for an alternative to form the next government in Maharashtra and asserted there are “no saints in politics”.

“A Shiv Sena CM is our priority. BJP agreed for a Sena CM for two-and-a-half years. It was announced publicly. We want the BJP, which is going to construct a Ram temple, to speak the truth,” he had said.
