ACTOR SHAH Rukh Khan, whose upcoming film Raees has Pakistani actress Mahira Khan in a lead role, met Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray at his residence Sunday.
“The meeting was to clarify reports that Pakistanis would be promoting the film. They wanted to say that no Pakistani will be coming to India. They also assured that till the situation between the two countries improves they will not hire any Pakistani actor,” Thackeray said after the meeting.
Khan was accompanied by Raees producer Ritesh Sadhwani and Ameya Khopkar, who heads the MNS film wing. The MNS had threatened to stop screening of movies that featured Pakistani actors.
Earlier this year, it protested against Karan Johar’s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, which had Pakistani actor Fawad Khan. The film was finally shown after the mediation of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and the insistence by Thackeray that the producers pay Rs 5 crore to the Army Welfare Fund.
