
Senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Ahmed Patel, who had been undergoing treatment for Covid-related complications, has been placed in the intensive care unit of Medanta Hospital, his family said Sunday, adding that his condition is stable.
The Congress treasurer, 71, was admitted to the hospital in Gurgaon on Friday. He was undergoing treatment in a private hospital in Faridabad earlier.
Patel’s son Faisal tweeted: “On behalf of his family, we would like to share that Shri Ahmed Patel had tested positive for Covid19 a few weeks ago. He has now been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of Medanta Hospital, Gurgaon for further treatment.”
“His condition is stable and he continues to be under medical observation…We request you to pray for his speedy recovery,” he said.

On Saturday, Congress communication department head Randeep Surjewala had told The Indian Express: “There is nothing to worry about. He is stable. He has coronavirus. He is being treated at the Medanta hospital. He is on partial ventilator support and he is recovering.”
Patel had said on October 1 that he had tested positive for Covid-19 and was going into isolation. After some days, he was admitted to the Faridabad hospital.

“I wish Ahmed Patel ji a speedy and complete recovery at the earliest. The party needs his able guidance every step of the way,” senior leader Rahul Gandhi tweeted. Other leaders inclding Anand Sharma, Shashi Tharoor and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also wished Patel a speedy recovery.
