In a major security breach in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday morning, two people, carrying smoke canisters, jumped from the visitors’ gallery and ran into the chamber of the House.

Footage from the Lok Sabha showed one man leaping across desks, while the second person was in the visitors’ gallery spraying smoke. Members present inside the House told reporters that they were chanting slogans such as “tana shahi nahi chalegi” (this dictatorship won’t be accepted). Both were detained.

Here’s what we know so far about the incident:

📌 Parliament kicked off today with leaders across party lines, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge, and Sonia Gandhi among others, paying tributes to the martyrs of the 2001 attack.

📌 Two persons jump into the Lok Sabha chamber from the public gallery with smoke canisters.

📌 The two persons were overpowered by the Lok Sabha members and the ward staff.

📌 Both the people were heard chanting slogans such as ‘tana shahi nahi chalegi’ (dictatorship won’t be accepted)

📌 The duo was detained. Two more people were held from outside the Parliament building carrying cans that emitted a yellowish smoke

📌 The four accused were identified:  Sagar Sharma and D Manoranjan were the two inside Lok Sabha. Neelam, 42, of Haryana’s Hisar, and Amol Shinde, 25, of Maharasthra’s Latur area were caught protesting outside Parliament.
