A portion of Romeo Lane Vagator, a beach shack run by Saurabh Luthra and Gaurav Luthra, was demolished Tuesday, Goa government sources told The Indian Express. Another club run by the Luthra brothers, Birch by Romeo Lane in Arpora, was the scene of a midnight blaze where 25 people died. The Luthra brothers, police say, left for Thailand hours after the fire.

An official said there were certain illegalities pertaining to construction of the property in Vagator, which was sealed by revenue authorities earlier.

“There was an order of the tourism department regarding demolition of the illegal portion, which was partially enforced. The tourism department requested Collector North Goa for police force and executive magistrate to carry out the demolition,” said an official, adding that the shack will be razed today.

“A portion of the shack, about 198 square metres, which had been encroached on the government beach property, abutting two survery numbers [213/4 213/5], has been demolished. These encroached structures were demolished in July too, but they rebuilt them. The encroachments have been removed today,” said Rodlin Mascrenhas, deputy director, Tourism.
