Defying the Congress diktat, which said his protest is “against the party’s interests and is anti-party activity”, former Rajasthan deputy chief minister Sachin Pilot sat on a day-long dharna in Jaipur Tuesday demanding action in corruption cases during Vasundhara Raje’s tenures as the chief minister.

Arriving at Shaheed Smarak at around 11 am, Pilot garlanded the photos of Mahatma Gandhi and Jyotirao Phule on the dais, before sitting on the stage as patriotic songs, including Ae Mere Watan Ke Logon, Dil Diya Hai Jaan Bhi Denge, Ae Watan Tere Liye, Mera Rang De Basanti Chola, and Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram, played in the background.

The dharna is being organised on social reformer Jyotirao Phule’s birth anniversary. “Corruption is an issue which touches the public, and is a big issue towards reforming the society, hence the inspiration to sit on a protest on his Jayanti,” Pilot had said earlier.

Launching an attack on Ashok Gehlot, Pilot had accused the Chief Minister of sitting on corruption cases under the previous Vasundhara Raje government.

Pilot will not speak during his day-long protest, which will go on till about 4 pm in the evening.

At the protest site, his supporters chanted, “Humara CM Kaisa Ho, Sachin Pilot Jaisa Ho,” and “I love you, I love you, Sachin Pilot, I love you,” while also demanding action in corruption cases.

Apart from hundreds of Congress workers, Congress leader and President and Founder of Sarv Brahmin Mahasabha, Pandit Suresh Mishra, and former Jaipur mayor Jyoti Khandelwal accompanied Pilot on the stage.
