‘Run for unity’ is being organised in various parts of the country Wednesday to commemorate the 143rd birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, even as the Statue of Unity, the world’s tallest statue, was unveiled in Gujarat.

Home Minister Rajnath Singh flagged off the run in the national capital. His colleagues Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu, Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Sports and I&B Minister Rajyavardhan Rathore participated in the run in different states.

In Tamil Nadu, Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, participating in the run, said it’s only fair to remember Sardar Patel today, who worked hard to make India one post independence.

“Post our freedom movement, Sardar Patel worked hard to get more than 550 princely states together to make India one. It’s only right that we remember him today,” ANI quoted her as saying.

In Guwahati, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda flagged off the run, while Rajyavardhan Rathore participated in the national capital. Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar will flag-off a “Run for Unity” programme in Sirsa.
