Rashtriya Lok Samta Party (RLSP) block president of Patna’s Paliganj Amit Bhushan Verma was shot dead late on Tuesday while he was at a cultural programme in the area. This is the fourth murder of an RLSP leader in less than a year.
Verma is the fourth RLSP leader to be murdered in less than a year, leading party president and Union Minister Upendra Kushwaha to question Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s claims of good governance.
RLSP chief and Union minister Upendra Kushwaha, who visited the aggrieved family, said: “This is the fourth killing of an RLSP leader in a year. Law and order has gone for a six in Bihar. I wonder what kind of good governance is this.”
Kushwaha later tweeted: “One incident after another, series of incidents, there has been selective killings… Yet, they (state government) calls it good governance. Perhaps they have changed the definition of good governance”.
घटना पर घटना, फिर घटना, घटनाओं का सिलसिला, हर-तरफ, हर-पहर, चुन-चुन कर हत्या ……!
फिर भी सुशासन ?

According to the police, the incident took place when Verma had gone to attend a cultural programme organised near Khiri More police station. Just as he was alighting from the stage, some gunmen fired at least four bullets at him from close range.
Local police station in-charge, who had been standing behind Verma, escaped the bullets. The gunmen later walked away from the spot. A senior police officer said, “Criminals managed to escape because of darkness. Old enmity looks to be the reason behind the killing.”
Reacting to the incident, RLSP spokesperson Jitendra Nath said there had been a pattern behind the killing of party leaders. “Our leaders, Manish Sahni or Vaishali, Manoj Mahato of Khagaul (Patna) and Sanjay Sah of Siwan have been killed within a year. In Manoj’s case, even a witness has been killed… We demand a fair investigation,” said Nath.
