A scuffle between two drivers over fare in Sebdan village of Budgam in central Kashmir has flared up into sectarian violence. Unidentified people, during night, set on fire three vehicles of a community. In retaliation, the members of the community attacked the houses of the other side.

Hurriyat chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani has termed it an attempt to divert attention from the Gool killings and urged the people to maintain peace. A posse of police has been deployed in the area.

“Though this (violence) started from the personal rift between two people, the enemy agencies are trying to give it a colour of sectarian conflict to divert from Gool incident,” Geelani said a video message released on Facebook. “People should immediately stop attacks on each other and maintain brotherhood at all costs”.

Geelani said a Hurriyat team had been sent to the affected village to broker peace between the two communities. He said if police are sincere, they should lift the security around his house and allow him to visit Sebdan.
