Operation Blue Star anniversary observed

A function to mark the 25th anniversary of Operation Bluestar to flush out militants from the Golden Temple was held at Akal Takht.

A function to mark the 25th anniversary of Operation Bluestar to flush out militants from the Golden Temple was held on Saturday at Akal Takht,the highest Sikh temporal seat.

The function organised by the apex religious body of the Sikhs,the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee,was attended by Sikh devotees from across the state and various Sikh political and religious organisations.

Jathedar Akal Takht,Gyani Gurbachan Singh addressed the devotees present on the occasion. Former MP and president Shriomani Akali Dal (Amritsar) Simranjit Singh Mann raised pro-Khalisthan slogans and was joined by other devotees present there.

In June 1984,Indian army had conducted the Operation to flush out militants hiding in the Golden Temple. During the army action,Sikh militant leader Jarnail Singh Bhindranwala was killed.
