No letter from US senators on Kandhamal violence: Naveen

No letters were received from any US senator regarding the communal violence in Kandhamal last year,Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said.

No letters were received from any US senator regarding the communal violence in Kandhamal last year,Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said on Wednesday.

“Me or my office has not received any letter from any of the 21 US senate members as reported in a section of media,” Patnaik told reporters here.

The chief minister’s statement came a day after the BJP sought a clarification from the state government on a reported letter from the US senators.

“We demand that the chief minister make the government stand clear on this matter while keeping the prestige of the people of Orissa,” state BJP spokesman Nayan Mohanty had told reporters yesterday.

There was a thorough verification of letters,e-mails both at the CMO here and at the office of the Resident Commission at Delhi but no such letter from the US senators was found,an official at the chief minister’s office said on condition of anonymity when approached.
