Shiv Sena member Chandrakant Khaire condemned the Deoband resolution against singing of Vande Mataram and said if one wanted to live in India,he would have to sing the national song
Raising the matter in the Lok Sabha during Zero Hour,he criticised Home Minister P Chidambaram for attending the Deoband programme on November 3,when the resolution was passed.
He was countered by Congress MPs who argued that the resolution was not passed in the presence of Chidambaram.
“If one has to live in India,he will have to sing Vande Mataram,” Khaire said and insisted that singing it should be made compulsory.

A demand was also made for amending the Representation of Peoples’ Act to allow punitive action against political parties indulging in violence.
Manish Tewari (Cong) condemned the attack on offices of a news channel in Maharashtra by members of a political party on November 20.
He said the Representation of Peoples’ Act should be suitably amended so that action could be taken against political parties which perpetrate such violence.
The Election Commission should have the power to act against such parties,he said.
