Legislator denied permission to hold sit-in during PM visit

Srinagar district authority has declined permission to a legislator to hold protest sit-in during PM's visit to Kashmir to draw his attention towards alleged human right violations.

Srinagar district authority has declined permission to a legislator to hold protest sit-in during Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s visit to Kashmir to draw his attention towards alleged human right violations especially Machhil fake encounter by the Army.

“The permission to hold dharna is declined as on June 7 (the day PM is arriving here) section 144 CRPC will remain enforced”,District Magistrate Srinagar told Independent MLA from Langate Sheikh Abdul Rashid in a letter last evening.

“The decision follows the report received by the government from SSP Srinagar”,the DM informed Rashid,official sources said.

Rashid had on May 31 sought permission to hold “peaceful” protest demonstration at Lal Chowk or near Raj Bhawan against the killing of three youths of Nadhil and alleged unabated human rights violations.

Rashid condemned the turning down of his plea.

“I wanted to draw attention of the PM towards the killing of three innocent youths of Nadihal,the continuing human rights violation by forces and forced labour which people of my constituency suffered at the hands of army for 13 long years. We strongly condemn the turning down of the permission by the DM”,he told reporters here.
