Hearing of complaints against Yeddyurappa adjourned

Earlier,senior counsel C H Hanumantharaya filed a vakalat to the said effect.

Objecting to the vakalat,senior counsel for Yeddyurappa,C V Nagesh and Ravi B Naik,submitted that if the counsel for the complainant has filed a vakalat to appear as prosecutor for the case,he has “to justify it and explain it”.

Nagesh said Pramod Chandra who has been appointed as the Special Public Prosectuor for Lokayukta,which is probing the case,should also be present.

Ravi Naik submitted that since it was a “technical matter”,Yeddyurappa,who was present today and also during the last hearing on August 29,be exempted from personal appearance as it was not only “causing incovenience to public because of security reasons but was also distrupting judicial proceedings because of the huge crowd that had gathered outside the court hall”.

Yeddyurappa’s sons B Y Raghavendra,B Y Vijayendra,son-in-law Sohan Kumar and other accused were also present.

“Let all the parties be heard and be given an equal opportunity before the court takes a final decision on this issue,” Ravi Naik submitted.

The two complaints on which summons were issued to Yeddyurappa and others pertain to irregularities in denotification of government land causing an alleged estimated loss of over Rs 124 crore and Rs 175 crore respectively.

While the first complaint involves Yeddyurappa and fourteen others,who are benamidars of his family,the second complaint involves Yeddyurappa and nine others including his two sons,son-in-law,former minister Krishnaiah Setty and MLA Hemachandra Sagar.

On August 29,all the accused in the two complaints appeared in court and filed their bail applications.
